Jade craftsmen are concentrated when crafting the raw jade. This process is usually done in China where most of the highest quality craftsmanship and jewelry come from. There are also many tools and planning that go into shaping a real jade and cutting it to the perfect size. Even when different pieces of genuine jade are crafted into the same symbol, the craftsman’s skills are taken into account when pricing the piece.
Finding the perfect piece of jade jewelry might be a hassle but knowing the variety of factors can definitely help find that piece of jade that is worth its value. Keeping in mind the factors of texture, transparency, clarity, color, and craftsmanship shown in the images of the jade Buddha above.
Some of these qualities overlap with each other which makes determining the value easier. Jadeite with smaller particle sizes (finer texture) also has higher transparency. These jade stones will often be used by artisans to create jade jewelry much higher in value as their high intrinsic value makes working on them worth the time.
At Dahlia, we take all of these qualities into account and assign our jade jewelry a Q number. The higher the Q number, the higher the jade quality overall. The jade coin chart on the right gives an example of the different jade pendants and their corresponding worth.

]]>You could question the origin of jade when you observe its peculiarly green hue. Did it come from space? Unfortunately, this is not the case, as genuine jade is generated in various locations across the planet.
What causes jade's green color? We'll look at where it's most commonly found, the science behind it, and how it forms geographically. Consider us your personal jade experts, here to teach you the fundamentals of jade. Dahlia has over 15 years of expertise selling real jade, so you can put your faith in us. If you wish to learn more please check out How to Identify Natural Grade A Jadeite Jade: Trained Eyes and Certification.
With our expertise, you won’t be disappointed.
Where is Jade Mostly Found?
How Are They Formed Geographically?
A distinctive gemstone called jade can be discovered in regions like Eastern Siberia and the Polar Urals. After that, the raw jade is shipped to China, the hub of the jade market, and the location of the best jade artistry.
Although jade is a well-known gemstone, its unique construction makes it quite expensive. The existing or new crack opens when there is another shift or earthquake, and water that contains dissolved jade rushes through the fissures to create a new layer of jade.
Jade can only be formed under specific circumstances. Jadeite, in particular, is a mineral that is formed during the metamorphism process and is associated with metamorphic rocks. Natural jadeite deposits are only usually found along the geologic locations where tectonic plates meet. The majority of jadeite is found in rocks with high pressure, which causes jadeite deposits to separate.
If you would like to check out our unique collection of Jade we have a variety of jade necklace pendants with beautiful designs such as jade dragon pendants, jade Buddha pendants and much more. And if you’re not a fan of jade necklaces we have genuine jade earrings and real jade earrings. Please feel free to check it out; you won't be disappointed in our collection.

The purpose can have such an impact on the value that small jade jewelry can be much more expensive than a larger-scale jade sculpture. A Neolithic vessel called Jade Cong with sacred human and animal faces from Liangzhu culture, is one of the most expensive ancient jade items.

Green jade is the most popular color out of the other hues, which makes it the most expensive if other qualities of the jade are consistent. The most vibrant and rare of the green hues is imperial green, which is rarely found in nature. The single most expensive jade jewelry sold is the Hutton-Mdivani Necklace, which is made from 27 imperial green jadeite beads and was auctioned for $27.4 million. Other shades of green are kingfisher jade (vibrant green), apple jade (yellow-green), and moss-in-snow jade (white with veins of green). Green jade has a rich past, not only was it extremely valued by those in Southeast Asia, but also in the Far East and Central America, where this gemstone was given the status of a “royal gemstone".
Aside from green, lavender jade is also highly sought after. Created by mineral manganese particles forming with jadeite, the price of authentic lavender jades have risen due to its rarity and increased demand. Authentic lavender jadeite deposits are found in selective regions such as Myanmar, Japan, Guatemala, and Russia. If the jadeite found does not exhibit the vibrancy demanded, some will try to enhance the color synthetically and depreciate its value by doing so. In China, lavender jade is favored by elderly women as its color symbolizes wisdom, intuitiveness, and insight, though that has not deterred western women from demanding this jadeite. The soft color creates a psychological calming effect and as a result, this shade of jadeite is often used in meditation and religious activities.
When purchasing jadeite, consumers usually lean towards green jade. While white nephrite used to be popular, the high pricing of white nephrite jewelry has led consumers to prefer green nephrite.
Chinese consumers prefer greener jadeite because of the symbolism it possesses in Chinese culture. The first jadeite arrived in China from Burma and the emperor of the Qing dynasty, Emperor Qianlong was said to be obsessed with this gemstone as he amassed a giant jadeite artifact collection. The word “jade” (玉) is closely related to the word “emperor” (王), suggesting that those in possession of jade jewelry are those of a higher class. Many traditional proverbs also use 玉 to express one's beauty and importance. Then cuts of jade are imported to China where it is made in the jewelry and craftsmanship pieces we see today.
Vietnamese consumers also prefer green jadeite in the belief that the jade color may change throughout time. This belief stems from the idea that jade protects the wearer from negative energies and provides good luck. Vietnamese children would wear their jade bracelets into adulthood. Vietnamese people believe the deeper the green color changes, the better fortune prevails.
The Mayans, Aztecs, and Olmecs of central America also valued greener jadeite since jade was seen as an antiquity. Jade was also used in rituals to communicate with their ancestors. Jade was highly valued since jade was used as an offering to the gods and royalty. Jade was a symbol of purity and life. Certain groups in Mesoamerica preferred other colors as opposed to green due to their religious symbolism. The Olmecs used blue jade because it represents water and the underworld. The desire for different colored jade depends on the religious uses as opposed to pure aesthetics. The Maori from New Zealand also valued jade resulting in creating tools and heirloom pendants with green nephrite. Maori jade jewelry is called pounamu and it exhibits wavy shapes.

On the other hand, opaque jade hinders the passage of light, resulting in diminished shine and reduced value. These patches and veins within the jade jewelry make it less desirable to consumers. As a result, a more clear and vibrant jadeite is more appealing to the customer's eye.
Transparency and texture work together with each other as both of these qualities depend on the arrangement of the particle structure within the jadeite. The more uniform and even the particle size, the smoother the texture it will create and the more transparent the jade jewelry will be.
As depicted in the image below of a jade Buddha pendant, you can observe a scale that represents the clarity of the jade. On the left side of the scale, where the jade Buddha is clearer, the value of the pendant tends to increase, making it more expensive. As you move towards the right side of the scale, the jade necklace becomes more opaque, causing the details of the necklace to be less visible and thus less valuable and popular among customers.
How do Jewelers Test for Transparency?
To test the transparency, jade buyers would place a thin slice of jadeite onto the printed paper and would read the print through the authentic jade. If the print is legible, that means the jade stone has high transparency, even if the jade has a vibrant saturated color. Great transparency can compensate for the other properties that the gemstone lacks, such as color.

How to tell Real and Authentic Jadeite
According to GIA , a method of checking Jade authenticity is through its quality. Things such as texture, transparency, and color are important factors to consider. Besides buying a piece of certified jade, here are 5 quick ways to test if your jade is real and natural or not.
With these methods, you should be able to quickly tell your jade bracelet or jade earrings’ authenticity. After all of these tests, you can also go to a jeweler to examine the piece. Jewelers are trained to recognize fakes with their equipment. You should ask them to perform a density test and estimate the price of your jade. It might also be wise to ask multiple jewelers for their opinion. Purchasing a beautiful jade bracelet only to discover later that it is a forgery would be very disappointing. Oh no! You are entitled to better. The best way to verify if jade is real is by sending it to a certified gemology laboratory.
Unlike most jade retailers, each piece of jade jewelry purchased from Dahlia is ensured to be real with its very own certificate of authenticity. Dahlia’s jade is 100% genuine grade A jadeite jade. Every piece of jade is unique, so your certificate of authenticity will have a picture of your jade with its assigned certificate number. Below is an example of our jade dragon necklace certificate and what will come with your order.
The best and easiest way to verify the jade information of the certificate is by scanning the QR Code with your smartphone or go to www.gtzy123.com where one can input the Certificate ID & Total Mass to get the results on the right using the Certificate Query.
We invest the extra time and resources to have our jade jewelry certified by China’s National Gemstone Testing Center (NGTC) so that our customers can buy our jade with confidence. The NGTC is the highest authority for certifying jade gemstones, comparable to the GIA for diamonds in the United States. The NGTC certifications are acknowledged internationally by ILAC-MRA and CNAS and nationally by CMA.

They captured a great amount of water to create rain. People were relieved and happy that their needs were finally heard. Also do not place the golden toad in the bathroom, dining room, bedroom, or kitchen.
When people say the phrase “monkey pick peaches” in Chinese, it is a phonogram with “hao-cai-tou” which means luckiness. This is suitable for business people, investors, and stock holders especially in China for people that live in the Chaoshan, Guangdong, and Guangxi area.
The connection between monkeys and peaches comes from the story of the Monkey King and Heaven’s Garden of Immortal Peaches. In Chinese folklore, Heaven is ruled as a bureaucracy by the Jade Emperor and Empress Queen Mother. The Empress Queen Mother often has banquets at the Lotus Pool in Heaven where immortal peaches are served. The Jade Emperor has put the Monkey King in charge of the Garden of Immortal Peaches since he is very capable of causing trouble. One day when the Empress Queen Mother decides to hold a banquet, it is reported that the Monkey King has picked and eaten all the peaches from the garden. This is a crime punishable by death, but the Jade Emperor is unable to capture the Monkey King since he has become so powerful from the peaches.
Finally, Buddha appeared in heaven and subdued the Monkey King, punishing him under the Five Hand Mountain for 500 years and then embarking on a journey to the west for spiritual awakening. The story is to show that the fruits of immortality are not gotten from stealing the peaches, but rather a daring and arduous journey of spiritual awakening. ]]>Blemishes in Chinese Culture
In Chinese culture, jade is seen as a good luck charm. Many Chinese women believe that jade is tied with one's body and soul. As a result, many Chinese women wear jade jewelry for a lifetime as they believe the jadeite jewelry to be a ward. However if their jade jewelry breaks, it is believed that the jade took the harm that would’ve been inflicted on the wearer, meaning that the jadeite jewelry protected its wearer from misfortune. Although this is merely a superstition and may be explained by the inclusions in the jadeite jewelry, jade is still worn and bought as a good luck charm and for protection against misfortune.

The texture of jade can also be referred to as old mine (fine), relatively old mine (medium), and new mine (coarse). The size of the raw jade particles also plays a part in their transparency as larger particle sizes prevent light from reflecting through the gem whereas smaller-sized particles allow light to reveal the depth and vibrancy of the jadeite jade.
The picture depicted above shows how texture can impact the price of a piece of real jade. The more clear (further left on the scale) the jade Buddha is, the more expensive. As the jade’s texture decreases, the cheaper it gets and ends up being less valuable.

Grade A, B, and C Jade
Jadeite jade has been historically subjected to various enhancements. In recent years, to help determine the naturalness of jadeite, experts have come up with a grading scale for evaluating a piece of jade. Jade imitations are another thing experts look out for when evaluating jade quality. The Grades A,B and C were created because there were so many dishonest businessmen who altered jade in order to sell it at a greater price. When we talk about the jade grading scale, we are talking about jadeite jade, but nephrite jade also has its own grading.
Grade A jade is completely natural with absolutely zero treatment besides cutting and polishing. Polishing, also known as waxing, is a common practice and does not devalue the jade piece as it is only a thin top layer. Grade A is the highest natural quality jadeite there is.
Grade B jade has been treated by being bleached or soaked in hydrochloric/sulfuric acid. This is done to clean the inside of impurities such as unwanted colors. A Grade B jade pendant has five to ten percent the value of grade A jade. It is often hard to tell if jade has been chemically treated when buying so it is best to ask the seller.
Grade C jade has gone through all the treatments mentioned for Grade B but is also dyed to improve the color or consistency of the color. The dyeing process is detrimental to the jade stone as it weakens its structure and could require further treatment like injecting it with polymers to make it stronger again. Grade C jade has very little to no value.
At Dahlia, we only offer grade A jadeite jade, so you can buy with confidence that our jades are natural and authentic. When buying grades B or C, you may experience fading of color or even skin irritation due to the chemicals used to treat the jade pendant so it is not recommended to wear these jade jewelry. Make sure that you are buying jade jewelry from a reputable company like Dahlia to ensure that you are getting the real and natural thing so there won’t be any dangers in wearing altered jade.
Overall, jades aren't just jadeites or nephrites; there are different grades as to how they were treated and why they look the way they do. Authentic grade A jade is the best quality type of jade compared to grade B or C jade because it retains its natural vibrant green color and is safe to wear.

With a glance, you can tell that the jadeite has a vibrant green color, whereas the nephrite is more dark and dull. That is one of the distinct differences in appearance, but sometimes it is hard to tell as very high quality nephrite can also appear to be as vibrant.
The Differences Between Jadeite and Nephrite
Jadeite jade is brighter and harder than nephrite jade because the crystal structures of the two types of jade are very different. While jadeite has a structure composed of an arrangement of grainy crystals, nephrite is composed of fibrous crystals that interlock in a matted texture. These densely packed and interwoven fibers are extremely fracture resistant. While jadeite is the denser and harder of the two jades, nephrite is the tougher of the two. Nephrite jade is more common and widely used, but jadeite is rarer and more valuable. As a result, jadeite is often more expensive than nephrite. That being said, jadeite jade is the more valuable and sought-after variety of the two. It is far rarer than nephrite and commands much higher prices.
Nephrite and jadeite have different variations in their crystal structures, which makes their texture different. The chemical makeup of nephrite jade is calcium magnesium iron silicate while the chemical makeup of jadeite jade is sodium aluminum silicate. As a result, nephrite jade’s interwoven structure does not make it as smooth as jadeite jade, but it does make itself tougher despite not being as hard as jadeite jade. As a result, jadeite is more valuable because its internal crystal formation allows for finer and smoother surfaces. You can learn more about what makes jade valuable here.
No matter the type, authentic jade stones are valuable and extremely beautiful. As such, jade jewelry is always a great choice. Always purchase jade from a reputable seller such as here at Dahlia so you can ensure that the jade you’re purchasing is what it’s claimed to be. Be sure to look up the history of the jeweler to ensure that they know how to correctly inspect jade. You can be assured that Dahlia jade is real jade.
In our blogs, we tend to focus more on jadeite jade rather than nephrite because Dahlia sells jadeite jade jewelry.

Many people get tricked by merchants who claim that any green stone is genuine jade since green is such a well-known characteristic about jade. It’s important to note real jade is categorized as jadeite or nephrite, the only two types of jade.
Faux Jade
Jade is a lovely stone that comes in a variety of colors, including green, orange, and white. The majority of us usually think of green jade. However, because authentic jade is a very popular and expensive stone, there are many fakes, imitations, or treated jades on the market. According to historical records, the Chinese began dyeing jade to improve its color in the 13th century.
When we talk about authentic jade, we are referring to the gemstone. There are often many misconceptions about what real jade is since there are many imitations. These are not genuine jades, but rather other minerals that resemble them in appearance.
Serpentine jade, chalcedony jade, mountain jade, and grossular are some examples of faux and imitation jade. These false jade are frequently softer and will fail the common scratch test used to verify the authenticity of genuine jade where you use a steel knife to try to scratch the “jade” you are testing. Furthermore, while many people regard jade as a precious gem, these stones are only semi-precious. While these substitutes may appear similar, there are only two true types of jade: jadeite and nephrite. Many vendors will also identify their imitations using the word “jade” in the name such as “African jade'' or “Amazon jade''. These are faux jade and are all varieties of the stones, but not jade.
Now that you have learned more about what fake jade is, come check out 100% certified grade A jade jewelry at Dahlia. Dahlia jade is guaranteed to be genuine jade. If you are still curious about how to tell real and natural jadeite, we have some methods in our other blog post.
